We were delightfully surprised with a party for our sixtieth wedding anniversary given by our daughter, Katherine and our son, Kevin and his wife, Darlene. We were told to be ready for 7 p.m. in dressy clothes, not jeans, and someone would drive us to the unknown event and destination. Imagine our delight upon walking into Lafreniere Park's Foundation Center of flowers and candles to see family and friends waiting to call out "Surprise".
Sixty years--my greatest joy was our four children, and, a fifth child who came to stay with us at the age of 3 months and whom we held as family for almost two years until she went to be with her parents. The fun we had, the good times and bad, the schools, the colleges, tennis, swimming, the beach trips, all the athletic events....the piano recitals, Communions, Confirmations, all wonderful memories. Then, they grew up and began lives of their own and along came a grandson and the fun began all over again. He grew up, too, and in 2015 began his own married life. The week of this 60th anniversary of our marriage we were told we are to become great-grandparents and the cycle of life continues. How glorious.
