May 2010

A horrific month in southeast Louisiana as the oil from the BP oil well continues to spew more than 40,000 gallons of oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico. Our shrimping, fishing, crabbing and oyster grounds have been closed putting thousands out of work. The oil is coming into our marshlands and wetlands, killing the grass and the tiny creatures that live there. Our estuaries are being destroyed as are our pelican rookeries.
