This One's For You, Father Red

Lake Pontchartrain

One year ago tonight my priest friend, Fr. Red Ginart, was swept away by the tidal surge and the wind of Hurricane Katrina. His body was never found.
Fr. Red was a tough Marine who thought he could outdo the elements. He stayed in his church for the storm which was very near the water. He stayed with elderly parishoners in the church parish of St. Nicholas in eastern New Orleans, who would not leave.
Perhaps his watery grave is even here where I photographed this sunset.

This moment has a direct connection to heaven. You have faithfully documented one of the hardest years for so many. Without the painstaking labor of love like yours and a few others, it would have been so easy to assume things had (or were) returned to normal.

God bless you for your loving, faithful, passionate and compasionate effort. Your strength to continue forging a forward path is inspirational to us all.

There could not be a more fitting tribute for Father Red. A year of sorrow, losses, courage, and your strength has come to an end. You have survived and thrived.

Such a lovely scene. Hard to imagine the violence that took Father Red and the many, many others. It looks so peaceful now.
