Each graduate rings the bell above the door of the centuries old building as he marches to his Baccalaureate Mass. The Mass was held outdoors under the ancient oaks.
The bell tolled for the final time on this campus this morning as the Class of 2006 celebrated the end of an era on Dauphine Street.
Holy Cross, located in the Ninth Ward, is one of the oldest boys' school in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina's flooding caused the EPA to close the school. In January the students returned to classes in portable classrooms. In the fall the school will open in a new location. A blue marble plaque with the names of the Class of 2006 will be placed on the new school. They are known as "the students who weathered the storm."
