October-8-World-famed-Canal Street

It is almost six weeks since Hurricane Katrina struck and this area was under water for days. The traffic is slowly increasing as people return to the City. The street car tracks have rusted and I cannot wait until electricity is restored so the red streetcars can run on Canal again. The overhead lines do not seem damaged and the oaks fared well. The smell is awful and the trash is everywhere. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, WHERE IS ALL THE HELP YOU PROMISED IN CLEANING UP.

I agree with your commentary and question! My maternal grandfather was born in 1883 in New Orleans. His grandfather came from Galway, Ireland to live there, and was buried from 107 Elysian Fields.

This city MUST be saved and protected. American Citizens, LOOK at our French and Spanish, etc., etc. heritage; New Orleans isn't just ANY city - it is irreplaceable!

Coleen, we have LANDRYs in our family; I admire your photography and skills and energy IMMENSELY. Thank-you SOOO much for your documentary history!
