The Mississippi River stayed at flood stage for so many weeks in the spring of 2011 that the Morganza Spillway and the Bonnet Carre' Spillway were opened to protect levees from breaking from Natchez to New Orleans.
Many people were displaced in the Morganza Spillway. However, they know that is the risk they take by living there and agree to the situation.
