Having served as Archbishop of New Orleans for several decades, Archbishop Philip Hannan died at the age of 98. Much beloved by everyone, he will be laid to rest beneath the altar of this venerable Cathedral, the oldest active Cathedral in the United States.
Thousands lined the streets as his funeral cortege traveled four miles from Notre Dame Seminary to the Cathedral in the Vieux Carre'. His horse drawn glass hearse was flanked by clergy and family in the procession.
