Spillway Gauge at 20 feet - Opening in Three Days

Bonnet Carre' Spillway - Louisiana

With the River rising higher by the minute, the Corps of Engineers scheduled the opening of the Bonnet Carre' Spillway for 8 a.m. on May 9. By noon on Monday this area will be a scene of raging water rushing through the locks on its way to Lake Pontchartrain.
Water leaking through the locks is already flooding the area. Predictions of of very high water has the Corps considering opening the Morganza Spillway some 40 miles northwest of Baton Rouge.
Regardless, the water coming from the northern United States and tributaries of the Mississippi River is enough for all to share this year.
President Obama has already declared a National Emergency for Louisiana and National Guard troops have been deployed in Terrebonne and St. Mary Parishes to help with evacuations.

interesting scene and narrative Coleen, sorry to hear about the evacuations.
It sounds as though you are getting our rain - we have just had the driest April on record without the usual Atlantic systems dropping any rain on us!
