Strike up the Band - the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Has Arrived

Bonnet Carre' Spillway at Mississippi River

As I watched them securing the boat brought in by the Corps of Engineers at the mouth of the Bonnet Carre' Spillway, it reminded me of stories my mother told us. In the early 1900's the "Showboat", a steamboat with a calliope playing to announce its arrival, would dock in this vicinity. Everyone in town would join in the excitement and the boat would stay for a week and hold performances each night. There was a regular stop at Perilloux Landing.
This was before the radio, television and the many, many things that entertain people today.
Unfortunately, there is no band with the Corps and no entertainment.

I think this would be an entertaining thing to watch. You got a beautiful picture of it with those clouds in the background.

Looks like the mean business.

Guess the next thing you will hear is the rush of water flowing thru the spillway.
Must be the "powers that be" coming down to assess the situation.
