Bocage Plantation in Winter

Bocage, built in 1801 for Fanny Bringier by her father as a wedding gift to his 14 year old daughter and her 30 year old French immigrant husband, has seen several owners. The original house burned in 1835 and another was built in 1837.
It was recently restored and is open for tours and as a Bed and Breakfast. The ceilings on the second floor are 15 feet which makes a vertical photograph almost a necessity. The marble floors on the first floor came from the St. Charles Hotel in New Orleans that was destroyed to make way for modernization.
It is located on the Great River Road in Darrow, Louisiana. We have lost so many of our grand houses along the Great River Road in Louisiana that it is heartening to see one that has taken great expense and time restored to some of its former grandeur.
It is under the stewardship of Dr. Marion Rundell.
