Hilda la revolucionaria

This picture is quite different from the other ones that I’ve submitted in the „Cuban“ portfolio and it’s not even a beautiful photo in the technical meaning of the word. It’s not sharp, it hasn’t neither a good contrast nor good colours. So why am I submitting it ??? I’m moreless keeping a promise… This is Hilda, the grand mother of a good friend of mine. I knew her at the end of May in her house in Havana, during my last vacation in Cuba. She was an old woman totally devoted to the Revolution and her room looked like a museum full with pictures of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. She followed every night the “mesa redonda”, a political “round table” programm daily broadcasted by the national television. She begun to talk to me about all the positive aspects of the revolution (school, education, hospitals and so on) and - in that occasion - I took some pictures of her. In order to avoid any possible misunderstanding, let me also make clear that I’m not here to discuss about policy, I’m just trying to describe that amazing woman and how active and lovely she was in spite of her age. On the last day, before leaving, I went to her to say good-bye and after a couple of minutes she went to her room and came back with an envelope she had prepared for me. Inside there was : A) a copy of the Farwell letter from Che Guevara to his sons and B) a real letter she wrote to me. “This is a humble letter written with a strong revolutionary fervour….” And actually it was an strong defense of Cuba, of its policy, of its revolution. At the end – of course – an “Hasta la victoria siempre”. Then she asked me to publish it “in Internet”. Of course I’m not doing it, since this is not the right place. But I want to remember her by submitting this picture. A small tribute to someone with a great great personality. Hilda died in the middle of July.
