Mirror Lens Guidescope

Just showing how Joey hangs onto the main OTA's dovetail. Since the dewshield for a C14 is rather big and unwieldy, there's often discussion as to whether one should go for a flexible or a rigid type. My comments on the Celestron Dewshield: It's flexible and light, can open up flat or rolled tighter. Unfortunately its flexibility is very sensitive to temperature. In sunlight it quickly goes soft and droopy, at temperatures lower than, say, 15deg C it becomes much more rigid. If you had it rolled up tighter for transportation then you will not be able to get it to acquire the nice, circular shape at the correct diameter that you desire in actual usage. Consequently you have to transport it around with the diameter of the C14 OTA, rather bulky; but nevertheless light. Celestron really ought to investigate less temperature sensitive plastics, or at least provide a wire ring of the correct diameter that you can use at the front, open, end to keep the thing circular. If your car is rather tight in luggage space that you cannot transport it without rolling it tighter, you may give a thought to make a coat-hanger hoop for that open end.
