Pushing tele-extension to extremes; using a Canon 1.4xII + a TeleVue 5x Powermate, yielding 4200mm focal length, or f/28 with the lens wide open. Yes, it is indeed possible to image the planets using camera lenses :-) The image is competitive to what one can expect from a 150mm aperture premium astroAPO. NB for planetary images we are interested in only the very center of the image, hardly anything off-axis. Most lenses are surprisingly excellent dead center.
