Much has been said about the 60ies and the 70ies , I'll add but this:
It appears that occasionally my focus was as fuzzy as my current recollections of those times. Without question, that fuzziness applied to a hell of a lot more than just photography. I do remember enjoying myself for the most part. The 70ies marked a period of often understated transition here in California. The "communal" thinking of the 60ies was well on the road to the corporate mindset of the 80ies. By the mid to late 70ies record companies and athletic shoe manufactures no longer gave away their promotional hats and t-shirts. They now expected you to pay for them. Many of my fellow 60ies survivors were experiencing a sort of flailing about of the 'id' if you will. Within this gallery you will see some of the people and places (strong emphases on 'people') that comprised my life at the time.
My approach to these galleries is more in the spirit of documentary than artistic. Other than converting the negatives I have spent very little time processing the images.
The vast majority of photos in this gallery were shot on 35mm TRI-X film with a pentax camera that lacked a meter and Yashica and Hasselblad 2 1/4 cameras on Kodak Plus-X film (the color on Kodachrome). The negatives were then copied with a Nikon 990 and converted with Adobe Photo shop. In a few rare cases I have scanned photos I have previously printed or re-photographed color 2 1/4 transparency film.
And now time for my cop-out. With the older work what you see here is basically what I had culled out from my work. What remains is what has survived fire, flood, earthquake and an insanely jealous girlfriend. The majority of these negatives were set aside in an old briefcase labeled “Not so good”.
