The Beauty Of Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Palo Duro Canyon is a beautiful state park near Amarillo, Texas. The canyon is often nicknamed the Grand Canyon of Texas! It surprises visitors, as their is no sign of the canyon at all until about 1/2 of a mile from it. Suddenly a huge gap appears in the flat plain. The Canyon opens up the ground and you travel DOWN to get in it. Its a very popular place for tourists, campers, picnickers, photographers, backpackers, RV-ers, hikers, horse riders and cyclers. In the summertime, the outdoor drama "Texas" draws visitors from all over the world. Very nice gallery! Palo Duro is like a second home for my wife and me. We first discovered it in 1993 while working at Borger. We have since moved on but return as often as possible.

Bravo! One of my favorite places in Texas. I worked in Amarillo 26 years ago and often escaped or camped in the canyon! I loved it in snow and in warm weather!!!! You DO it justice!

Makes me soooo homesick. I was born in Amarillo and lived there until I was a teenager. I would love to go back. There is no country or sense of welcome anywhere. Thanks for showing me a little bit of home. Palo Duro Canyon is just exactly like I remembered it.
