Taishan Villages, Guangdong - China (22) October 2007

Х Taishan, one of 5 districts (Wuyi) under Jiangmen City's jurisdiction, is home to many overseas Chinese in North America. ХаTaishan supplied many laborers to the Transcontinental Railroad and Gold Rush. The other 4 districts include Kaiping, Enping, Heshan, and Xinhui.
Х We located my mom's village of Git On Chuen in at Fucheng, near Sanba, Taishan, just east of Kaiping. Now about 12 people reside now in her small town, once a thriving farming village. She left in 1922 and has never returned. Near Taicheng, we found my wife's ancestral home in Git Hing Chuen Village.

My grand father Lee Chan, who we believe came from Taishan, Canton, migrated to the Philippines in 1880s. He got married to Veronica Gatbonton of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija and they settled in Magallanes Sorsogon. I belong to the 3rd generation and the children of our granparents have all passed away. We have no documents about the origin of our grandfather except for the Identification Card of his eldest son, Lee Hoy, which says that he was born in Hoi Shan, Canton. Hi everyone I am helping my father to trace his long separated sister in Taishan Shangze Village, Duan Fen Town. They were separated since the Japanese invaded China. My father was born in Singapore and has never met his sister in China. There was a period where we lost contact with them and now we would like to visit them in China. We have never been to this part of China and we are at a loss at how to get there. I was wondering if you could help me please. Thank you very much. Amanda, Singapore

Hi there, thank you so much for posting all these wonderful pictures. they remind me of my home village in Taichen. I came to the States when I was 16 yrs. these pictures have a lot of meaning to me and I deem them very valuable! its been 26 yrs, almost to the exact date when my family first touched down in New York's JFK. Seeing these wonderful pictures really has a strong urge in me that I need to go back and visit Taishan really for the first time since I left that area. As for me, I spent a number of years in NY before I settled here in the San Francisco Bay Area with my young family; although my parents are still living in BKLYN, NY. I come back to visit them from time to time. Again, thank you so much for your great effort in posting these pictures for people of the like background to appreciate. Thank you for sharing this site. I love the pictures. How I wish I could be able to find my father's village in Taishan. I only have a very few information about him and the Lee family in Taishan. I only have pictures no exact address whatsoever. Maybe my father don't was us to know his whereabout. But still I'm hoping that I could visit Taishan some day to pay respect to my grandparents.

I grew up in Taishan Village until in 1948, at the age of eight I, together with my mother, immigrated to Los Angeles to be reunited with my father. I lived in LA ever since. What a wonderful find to discover this website devoted to Taishan Chinese. I also do photography as a hobby and have taken many unique interesting shots during my first visit back to Taishan in 1983 & later subsequent trips in 1993,1995, 1998. I be interested to connect with others like myself & share stories & photos.

I discovered this website accidentally, I enjoyed it because it brought back some memories for me. I was born in China , and left there 1962 , moved to Toronto, Canada. My first return to Taishan was in 1980 and again in 2001, 2003 and I would like to return again whenever the time allows ,I spent most of my time in Taishan but I also visited Kaiping , I like visiting Kaiping because there is an area where in this particular street, all the shops there sold DVDs and CDs for cheap and good quality .
