Many groups of Australian Aborigines have their own stories of the night sky and the
Emu is one of those. Seen high in the sky during the southern hemisphere winter, the
shape is made up of the dark areas that we see across the centre of the Milky Way. It
starts from the the 'Coal Sack Nebula' which is just under the Southern Cross on the
right hand side of the image and extends across to the Milky Way in a narrow band (the
neck of the Emu) and extends out into the Emu's body to the left. Can you see it?
