This group of pictures comes to us through the generosity of Owen Graham, Executive Director of the 'Alaska Forest Association'.
Owen has been kind enough to loan me the slides and negatives from 'the storage closet' so I can scan and share them with all of you.
Thank you Owen! Without your help, many great folks would never get to see how truly great things were, back in the 'heyday'...
Like so many who came before me, I have been in awe of the great 'Alaskan Timber Industry' since childhood. I collected books and magazines-
pictures of the floating camps, downhill 'A-Frame' logging, and all that went with timber harvest in the last great wilderness. To land with a loaded machinery barge,
then unload on an island beach, and just start logging away must have been amazing indeed! Due to age and geography, I missed most of it in person, regretably.
Thanks to Owen and the entire AFA organization, we now have the opportunity to see the ground, the people, and the machinery of that era here, in pictures.
Please bear with me in this endeavor, as there are several thousand images to upload, and it will take some time.
**If you were lucky enough to be there, please take a minute to help me identify these people, places, and things.
ANY information will be appreciated- we need to save the memory, and sure could use the help!
Very nice collection. I'm not sure but back when I used slides (kodak crome 64?) there was a date engraved on the little white frame. If I'm correct then you can at least know the exact date.
