The pristine air of Hawaii gives its night skies a special sparkle. The Milky Way is clearly visible on clear nights,
for example here looking directly North off the Queen Kaahumanu Highway near the beautiful Kua Bay off-road
entry, showing the prominent cinder cone near the bay. On the night that I took this long exposure, the sky was
somewhat cloudy, giving a subtle trailing pattern in the sky. I converted this image into a print inspired from
Japanese calligraphy in honor of the large Japanese ancestry living on the Hawaiian Islands.
