December 30: SP Friday – The Photographer

Rancho Bernardo, CA

This shot has more outtakes than Carter has little liver pills. And I'm not wild about how it finally came out.

My goal was to have the little Pentax balancing on my head, but the best I could do was hold it up there. And then there is the matter of the ceiling fan. Many of you will undoubtedly make snide cracks like "propeller head!" L0L

This all began when I was startled by a comment on yesterday's PaD asking why I had used my 20D. Well, (blush, squirm, blush again) I hadn't realized that is the camera I had used. (blush a third time). Thus the genesis for this SP.

Like many of life's lessons, next time I'll know better. Cheers to all.

Counter-clockwise from the top: Pentax Optio 550, Canon EOS Elan, 5D, and 20D

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
1/60s f/5.0 at 17.0mm iso800 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

I meant to type "professional" but the "a" and l" keys jumped off the keyboard and ran away. They just returned.
Dave Beedon03-Feb-2006 09:24
Duct tape would hold the camera in place for you for that profession, "no hands" look.

Lol! Fun shot, Robin!

You work so hard at providing us with such fun and enjoyable images. It is appreciated. Happy New Year.

I was ending that the half sized makes still the better choice.
Lou Giroud31-Dec-2005 10:13
Looks like the fan will give you a haircut if he starts turning Robin.
On the other side, is there something wrong to make a shot with a 20D. With a pixel size of 7 mu against 5 mu for the 5D, it has still a better basic resolution then a 5D, even if the 5D produces a bigger basic picture.
The 5D is and remains an unbeaten night performer, for the bright light and performance I would go for something else and still think that the 20D is, in price and performance the better choice.
In exception to say that one ows a full sized chip with all the advantages and disadvantages this will bring you, there is no valuable reason to go for the 5D.
In this field the 1DSmk2 makes no exception and I doubt that full sized chips will take over the market in the future. Balancing the disadvantages against the advantages makes still today the ha

hahaha. Good job the cameras are weighing you down - that Propeller on your head looks quite strong. hehehe.
noearlybird31-Dec-2005 04:24
made me smile large. I keep thinking I will make time to take a picture of all my cameras and then you just go and do it. "fully loaded" love it!

Cool SP Robin. I sure hope no one turns that fan on while you are doing all this.
Guest 31-Dec-2005 03:39
Lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have done my day!!!!!!!

Great image of this kind of "Robincopter"!!!!!! I think could be great for aerial photography!!!!
Mike Morgan 31-Dec-2005 03:26
Your an awfully strong guy Robin. Most people (including x-presidents) would wind up with a "hernia" after supporting all that firepower. Good SP.
Mindy McNaugher31-Dec-2005 03:16
You are causing acute camera envy!!! Very fun SP!!
Cindy Flood31-Dec-2005 02:27
That must have been a balancing act. I can see why you had a lot of out-takes. LOL
NealyBob30-Dec-2005 23:51
Nice shot, I think you need a few more cameras.
Guest 30-Dec-2005 23:36
canon should use this as a promotional ad!!! :)
Dan Chusid30-Dec-2005 22:32
No wonder you didn't make it to the dinner,
weighted down with this conundrum.
Dan Chusid30-Dec-2005 22:29
Carter's has liver pills?

Who'da thunk...
Coleen Perilloux Landry30-Dec-2005 20:45
Thou shall have a serious neck problem with all that weight. Happy Friday.
Gary Winters30-Dec-2005 20:23
Came back with an idea. Strap the Pentax to one of the blades. Turn on the self timer. Start the fan. See what happens!

PS: I triple dog dare you.

Decisions... decisions... decisions ;)
joanteno30-Dec-2005 20:06

Bob Foisel30-Dec-2005 19:51
I can see why you might get confused, Mr Propeller Head. Ha Ha now it's been said.
JW30-Dec-2005 19:47
Will you be holding a New Year sale?

Nice SP
Gayle P. Clement30-Dec-2005 19:45
Silly Robin! How would I ever know it was Friday if not for you and Gary?
royalld30-Dec-2005 19:27
Wow! You certainly have a bunch of options.
One bit of advice, never put on a pull-over sweater when standing under a working ceiling fan.
Don't ask how I know.
Guest 30-Dec-2005 19:20
lol! nice balancing act.
Jola Dziubinska30-Dec-2005 19:06
Nice toys...
Gary Winters30-Dec-2005 18:52
By the way, my first reaction was Oh No! He got his credit card bill and decided to do himself in!

(Too much Law and Order, CSI, etc over here...lol)
Gary Winters30-Dec-2005 18:51
I'm simply speechless. Can't even find a pun! I will say this -- this shot is so you, Robin! Good work, clever idea, and waaaayyyy too much equipment! (I guess I found something to say after all!) :-)
Linda Alstead30-Dec-2005 18:05
I thought the cameras were ballast so you couldn't take off!!!!
Herb 30-Dec-2005 18:04
So this is how you look fully loaded
Focus30-Dec-2005 18:01
Great fun shot!! you are either very tall or that is a low ceiling... LOL.......and one cannot have to many toys!!!!!!! ;)
Zak30-Dec-2005 18:00
Nice SP, Propeller Head! ;-)
Bob Floyd30-Dec-2005 17:45
Well done! LOL - Nice problem to have...not knowing which rig you used for what shot.
Guest 30-Dec-2005 17:37
You clearly suffer from a syndrome of not having had enough toys growing up! Oy! I wouldn't have any idea what to do with that much equipment - I'm glad you can put it all to such good use.

And don't stand too tall - you're dangerously close to losing the Pentax.
