Daguerreotype Photogrpahy

Palomar College, CA view map

Beth Ann proudly shows her Daguerreotype print. Today in class we used 4 x 5 cameras and contact negatives (instead of glass plates) to experience this earliest method of portrait photography. Each subject had to pose for about 30 seconds in the dimly lit studio in order for us to replicate the experience, which first came on the scene in 1839.

I still haven’t processed my first shot, which I’ll post later (hopefully). This was a fun thing to do today and it certainly was different.

There is a certain irony that I grabbed this with my iPhone!

Must be fun doing it the original way!

But hey, don't forget Mr Fox-Talbot, I think he took a 'fixed' photograph before M Daguerre! ;0)

From Daguerreotype to the iPhone. Now that completely brackets photographic history.
