"What's Trenton known for?" is what Tony Levin asked, while onstage, here for a concert. Some stuff:
- General George Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas Eve,
winning the Battle of Trenton in the Revolutionary War. Remember "that guy in the front of the boat?"
We might be drinking tea instead of coffee now (not that there's anything wrong with tea).
- The wire cables in the Golden Gate Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge were made in Trenton.
Roebling Steel Works. Roebling designed and engineered the Brooklyn Bridge. "In Jersey!"
Think of that next time when driving over to Marin County from San Fran, or walking into Manhattan from Brooklyn.
- Former Vice President Dan Quayle finally learned how to spell potato(e) - in Trenton!
A tedious account of it is at: http://www.capitalcentury.com/1992.html
Trenton also happens to be the birthplace of Supreme Court Judges Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito. Take that as you will.
