It is not legal to drop an anchor within the city limits of Vero Beach. To accomodate cruising boaters the city installed moorings for us to tie-up to. The moorings are sturdy and can usually be trusted to hold a boat in a heavy blow. This one held Shibumi's 41,000 pounds during a fiesty 42-knot squall. You can see draped to the mooring line one of the many leaves that were blown out of the mangroves by the overnight storm. We were surprised when we got to Vero Beach that there were three of Shibumi's sisterships in the mooring field. They were "Sterling", "Chanticleer", and "Rocinante". |
