Clouds, smoke, sun, and wind. The images on this page are from last night's sunset. There are wild fires in the Everglades Forest of Florida. Smoke from the wildfires combined with storm clouds to create an awesome show in the evening sky over Peck Lake. Today is Shibumi Day 51. The wind was strong from the west, much stronger than the forecast said it would be. That theme is starting to become familiar to us, but the poor weatherman does the best he can. It was Jill's turn at the helm as we sailed across the unpredictable St. Lucie Inlet. She did a masterful job keeping Shibumi in the channel while a ferious west wind fought to push us out to the eastside. Another sailboat sailing ahead of us was not as fortunate. They drifted out of the channel and ran aground on the east bank. There was no way for us to assist them without putting our own vessel in peril. So encouragement and moral support was all we could offer. They called a tow-boat service and hopefully were able to continue on their way. We decided on a short day sail to Jensen Beach, today. We anchored at there several times before. Jensen Beach has a nice park that was made from a former draw bridge. The park juts out into the water and is a favorite with local fisherman. After setting the anchor we each finished our boat chores and were settled in before 1 o'clock in the afternoon. I really like these short trips that give us the rest of the day to play. |
While the setting sun put on a show in the cockpit, American Idol was showing on TV in our main salon. | ![]() |
