Click here for my on-line journal: AS I SEE IT

Free videoconferencing is now a reality around our house.
Perched atop my computer monitor is the webcam given to me for Christmas. It comes in handy when used with Skype.com. I now talk regularly to (and can see via video) my sister in the Caribbean for free. And Jill gets to see and talk to her grandchildren in Pennsylvania for the same price, nothing.

Skype seems to be catching on like wildfire. It seems everyday another friend calls me after installing it. The world is changing fast... and I am peddling as fast as I can to keep up with it.

Liza (snootydog) told me about it some time ago . . .maybe a year or more . . . but I STILL haven't done it =P

I've been using Skype for years (sans web cam) to talk to my brother in the UK free. It is brilliant.
Love the little video you put on, great to hear you.

I haven't gotten an Ipod, much less looked into this. The way I look at home, I'm not sure I want anyone to see me...geez, I'd have to wear makeup and comb my hair! But, I want you to have fun!!!!!

Note to Ferm: Dave forgot to mention to make sure when you are doing videoconferencing on Skype
that you're wearing some clothes.
Can be a little embarrassing if you're not!
:^O

I've been using Skype for a couple years now and use the video cam with a friend
in Japan mostly. Before last year, you could call anybody on your computer in North
America & Canada for free with it! Still can but it costs a few cents a minute. When you
put on headphones for an audio chat, you avoid the feedback issues that sometimes crop
up (from the mics) and the clarity is amazing. Like being in the next room!
So...when are we setting up the Pbase conference call Dave?

How cool!
Dan and I are both on Skype but no webcam for me (thank God!)
Njoy!

Now they can see all of those faces we make ;-)

People won't need to meet in person soon! ;o)
But how cool to be able to do this for free!!

awesome! loved the video too
I have Skype (don't use it that often) and a webcam, but haven't put the two together

It's great when you have broadband but with dial-up it's a non-starter - I can't even download the program! I can see live SPs are the way forward! Chris

I might have to try Skype. And of course my Macs have built in web cams!

To Ferm: Actually, Skype takes no real coordination at all.
I simply double-click on the person's name from my contact list.
If they are near their computer it will alert them that I am trying to call.
If they are not near the computer I can leave a written message that I called.
It works pretty slick.

Dave what a great set up. I imagine it takes a little coordination /communication to be able to communicate with the other party in order to be on line at the same time. Happy viewing.

You are way ahead of me, Dave! Nice.
