Most of the land outside of the cities and national parks is farmed. Everything from large tea, coffee and banana plantations to small subsistence farms for potatoes, corn and beans. The land is very fertile and productive. Many of these farms are on hills and the slopes of volcanoes in absolutely beautiful settings. Amazingly, in 2 weeks we never saw a tractor. Eveything is done by hand, and almost entirely by the women.
