The European Hornet is the largest (1.5 inches) social wasp native to Europe. It was introduced to North America by European settlers in the 1800's and is the only true hornet found in our country. They are a beautiful wasp and even though they are huge, they are not aggressive although they will defend their nests which usually will hold 200-400 adults.
