I use this lens as my general all-round lens. It's particularly great because it is quite fast and very sharp wide-open. Usually you need to stop down lenses in this range but not the Sigma 17-70mm. As you can see from this gallery I use it for nearly everything - macro, portraits, landscapes, etc.

I like to call this the "poor man's Carl Zeiss 16-80mm.
