The skirmish was presented by The Civil War Reenactors of East Tennessee, The United Daughters of the Confederacy (Tellico Iron Works 2636), and Historic Ramsey House. The 1864 skirmish was one of hundreds during the war, when scouting parties or isolated units encountered small enemy bands. Local people knew about the skirmish along the Holston River near the Ramsey House, but it may never have made the history books.
Archeological evidence at Ramsey House indicates the area had been occupied predominantly by Union troops.
The clash between small bands of Union and Confederate forces occurred on Feb. 20, 1864, this re-enacted is part of Ramsey House's Civil War Living History Week. The event this year commemorates the 150th anniversary of the War between the States.
