7 Aug... TITC: "In and out"

I got into trouble taking this photo tonight - but managed to talk my way out of it.

A little station guy spotted me using my camera on the station, came running over to tell me to stop - and demanded I deleted my images. I said I was happy to stop, but I pointed out politely that he didn't actually have the legal right to tell me to delete my images. He got all hot under the collar and said he'd call a policeman over to speak to me - I said I was fine with that, I didn't have a problem with his asking me to stop photographing - it was just that he couldn't actually ask me to delete my images.

Policeman comes over, I tell him I'm an amateur photographer. I pointed out I'd already done as the station chap had asked and stopped photographing immediately. Nice policeman gave me a routine spiel about security but agreed the station chap couldn't demand that I delete my images and wished me a pleasant evening.... PHEW !!!!!

This time last year I was [ immersed in music ]

Great movement and what a story! I have only been stopped once. I was shooting sculptures at a mall and a security guard asked what I was doing. He didn't ask me to stop.

Geez! I take shots everywhere and no one has ever told me to stop except for some strange older lady in Baltimore where a cop was standing right next to me and said in public, I can shoot anyone or anything I like! I love this shot...the movement is fantastic!!!!!
Norbert Fortelny09-Aug-2008 18:57
Well done on both counts.
This "security" craze is plain stupid and useless.
Laura Sebastianelli09-Aug-2008 14:29
Excellent shot!!!!

Good for you...I'm tired of the over used " security " rubbish...love the treatment you have used. It was worth fighting for.

Bravo number 1 for the photo! It's amazing.
Bravo number 2 for standing up to the small man with a big badge.
Next time I'm told to stop, I shall follow your example and NOT delete :-)

Nice shot! Did you pull this off hand held? Now that would be impressive. Good for you to fight for your image.

Good for you!!! Some people just...don't get it, c'est la vie...sigh.
It would have been a real shame to delete this very fine shot!

Dave Hein07-Aug-2008 22:32
It will be nice when this paranoia over photography in public places blows over. An excessive number of photos of public places makes us all safer in the event something happens.
Ann...07-Aug-2008 21:59
Well done you on all counts!!!
Jola Dziubinska07-Aug-2008 21:55
Super shot.

Nice one Rose! Fight the power!

They are a little slow at Charing Cross aren't they? Seeing as you've taken a snap like this before!!!
Laryl07-Aug-2008 21:43
I wouldn't have any idea what my rights are.. we have a mall that is "private property" according to them and they don't allow us to take photos either.. weird since it's a public place of business?
Laryl07-Aug-2008 21:42
whew!! great shot and I'm glad you didn't let them bully you!
Ray :)07-Aug-2008 21:37
As soon as I saw the pic, I thought "you were brave!" but also thought how good it was. That jumble of brown and the muddied reflection set off by the red 'Cranberry' sign.
Well done on telling him the law. I had to educate a shopping mall guard only this week. Perhaps we could set up a training consultancy? ;-)
