The Royal Netherlands Air Force (or KLu) retired its last F-104 Starfighters in 1985. By then, only the Canadair NF-5 Freedom Fighter and GD (Fokker- built) F-16 guarded the Dutch skies. In the early-1990's the last NF-5's were retired as well. In those days the helicopter fleet still was relatively small (Bö-105CB and Alouette 3), as was the transport fleet (a dozen Fokker 27's). PC-7 trainers entered service in 1989 and are still active today. The Dutch Navy flew with Westland Lynx helicopters and Lockheed P-3C-II Orions.
