The Duomo of Milano 2009

The Duomo or Cathedral of Milano is in the the city centre. It was started in 1386, consecrated in 1418, and remained unfinished until the 19th century when the facade was completed. I had wanted to visit this remarkable architectural and artistic monument after studies in Art History 35 years ago. I finally got the opportunity to visit Milan and its Cathedral 3 years ago for the first time. How disappointing it was to see the façade of the Duomo covered with scaffolding. The next year 1/3 was gone and the following 1/3 more. This year 99.5% was gone… and after only about 7 or 8 years. Now other parts of the church are receiving similar restoration treatments. I managed to take a few shots over a three day visit. Enjoy the tour.
