La Fontana delleTartarughe (Tortoise Fountain) .. 3380

Roma (Rome)

This is one of the most sophisticated and graceful of all Mannerist fountains(1581-84).
It was designed by Giacomo della Porta, with bronze figures by the Florentine sculpture
Taddeo Landini. The tortoises were added later, in 17C.

This one so appeals to me, Robin. I just love how the colors of the shutters reflect the blue of the water, the complementary play between the orange of the building & the water, and how you can almost feel the smoothness of the marble. Beautiful.
