This is the original Stanley Cup. Originally known as the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, the trophy purchased by Lord Stanley (Governor General Of Canada 1888 - 1893) in 1893, began to be identified by its donor's name in the late 1890s. The original bowl and collar were retired, because it had become brittle and easily damaged, to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1969 where they were placed on display. This cup never leaves the Hockey Hall Of Fame.
