As you can see Pelee Island is almost halfway between Leamington, Ontario and Sandusky, Ohio and that the waters surrounding the Island are around 30 - 32 feet deep. Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes with a maximum depth of 210 ft. The average depth is 62 feet.
Pelee island was the site of a battle during the 1837 Rebellion (7 December 1837 - 4 December 1838) on March 3, 1838 between 300 American supporters of William Lyon Mackenzie's rebellion and British/Canadian troops. The battle was a decisive British/Canadian victory.
The island is serviced by two ferries, the MV Jiimaan and the MV Pelee Islander (owned by Pelee Island Transportation Company, a subsidiary of the OSTC).
