Milazzo is on a peninsular and has an impressive castle...
which is (like much in the Med) not open on Monday, when I went!
The walk from the castle to the end of the peninsular is quite scenic,
but takes several hours each way!
From Milazzo, cruise ferries operate to the Aeolian islands.
I visited Lipari and Vulcano (the origin of the word "volcano")
Luckily, the sea was very calm
On Lipari, I travelled all round the island by taxi, with photo stops on the way.
On Vulcano, I didn't go up to the sulphur vents
(apparently similar to Sulfatara, rather than a full eruption),
as that was a strenuous 40 minute walk...
and after lunch, it was just too hot!
