Blooming Grove Dunkard Meeting House

The pictures in this gallery were taken on Sunday, October 3, 2004. The Blooming Grove Dunkard Meeting House is in the Blooming Grove valley in Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, about 6 miles North of Williamsport. Randy's paternal ancestors first settled about 2 miles East of the Blooming Grove Dunkard Church in 1804 after immigrating from Wurtemburg, Germany. The Waltz and Kiess families were among the founders of the Meeting House (church) in 1828. We were privileged to receive a deluxe tour of the meeting house, museum and the surrounding area from Rev. Larry K. Waltz, a distant cousin and pastor of the First Baptist Church in Williamsport. Larry was then the secretary (now president)of the Blooming Grove Historical Society and extremely knowledgeable about the Waltz family history. His wonderful personality and superb hospitality made our first visit to Randy's ancestral home a unique and memorable occasion. The Blooming Grove Dunkard Church & Meeting House was an important part of the lives of the early Waltz family, and is a place Randy had always wanted to visit and finally had an opportunity to do so on our drive home from Cape Cod and Philadelphia. I'm also Blooming Grove descendant from the Jacob Heim family. Family surnames include Ruetter, Gohl, Stieger, Mutchler, and Mansel in my family tree.

Just came across this beautiful collection by accident while searching for someone else, and the photos bring back many memories. We hope to visit again this fall for the Apple Butter Boil and Shafer family reunion, and revisit the museum as well. Don't get "back home" as often as we'd like.
