I was stationed at Verdun Signal Depot, 7768 AU from early March 1955 until mid April, 1956. Our Commanding Officer at the barracks was Capt Thomas Child and our Commanding Officer at the Signal Depot was Capt. Judnick. There were two civilian Americans working at the depot from Ft. Monmouth , NJ. I remember a Mr. Horowitz . an American who worked in the Signal Depot and a Francois Girard, a Frenchman who worked as an interpeter. I believe that some of the soldiers that I served with there have passed on namely John Spinelli from Pittsburgh, Pa., and Joseph Heitman from Moscow, Pa.. I have lost track of Gunther Kroener and William Hardesty. Kroener was from NY<NY, but was born in Bamberg, Germany . Also lost track of Americo Fonseca from Yonkers, NY, and, Robert Hood from near Pittsburg, Pa..

I arrived in November 1965 to serve as a general dentist in the dental clinic at the General Hospital. Some of my fellow clinicians were Dr. Alan Steinman, dr. Jim Johnson, Dr. Bruce Bliel, Dr. Ron Desjardins, and Col Williams was the commanding dental officer. I remember, a Lt. Col., who was wonderful and very kind, but can't recall his name.... Have great memories of my 16 months there, and finished my tour in Fulda, Germany, after Degaulle kicked us out... Live on the "economy" on Rue 19, fond memories of great cheeseburgers in the golf shack, and snow at a fourth of July picnic! "junking" for mother of pearl old clocks, WWI swords and helmets, and really traveling on Eurpoe on Five Dollars a Day"....... Imagine! Taking my Grandchildren to visit Verdun, and Ossuary ,
trench de Bayonets, LaCoq Hardi this July.
Just retired, after a great career as a Pediatric Dentist in Atlanta, Ga....roneichel@hotmail.com
