The Greek island of Aegina was the largest one we visited. The island produces an insane amount of pistachios; for miles and miles across the island, one sees nothing but endless groves of pistachio trees. I visited a 20th century cathedral and a 5th century BC temple dedicated to the nymph Aphaea, a minor goddess of light. The temple was constructed around 500-490 BC, about 40 years before the Parthenon in Athens. The island has only 15,000 inhabitants, but it has 22 cathedrals, 400 chapels, and 7 monasteries.
