During and after the race weekend, Dad and I stayed in Maastricht, The Netherlands. It was less than 40 miles from the track, and it's a cool city to visit. It was built by the Romans.
Our hotel (the Hotel Les Charmes) was built as a mansion in 1725 and converted to a hotel in the 19th century. In addition to being a wonderful hotel, it sits smack in the middle of the old part of Maastricht, within walking distance of all the cool stuff. It's near the main squares of Vrijthof and Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, and a short walk to the two pedestrian bridges across the Maas River, which lead to the "other" old part of the city (the Wyck district).
