Belur & Halebid

The two Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid are indescribable. I was floored... Beautiful friezes, sculptures, carvings, interior columns, ceilings adorn these temples. 17km apart, and about 2.5 hours by car from Mysore, Belur and Halebid were built in the 12th century during the Hoysala dynasty. Belur was dedicated to Vishnu (specifically Lord Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu), whereas Halebid's patron god was Shiva.

I visited Belur and Halebid in my teens. I still vividly remember the intricate carving. There is no place in India that has so much beauty. Please preserve them for our future generations to enjoy.
