The Prambanan complex of temples is located in Central Java between Yogyakarta and Solo (formerly Surakarta). The complex has both Hindu and Buddhist temples. The temples were built in the 8th. 9th and 10th centuries. These are the Hindu temples dedicated to Shiva. On 27 May 2006 an earthquake of magnitude of 6.4 centred on the coastline south of Yogyakarta hit the area. The temples were not too badly damaged but this Hindu complex has been fenced off and some of the structures are under repair.
The photographs of the statues date from our last visit in 2002.

At Borobudur, which is a Buddhist temple, the panels are read in a clockwise direction. Regards, Paul
