Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition at Parksville,Vancouver Island-Aug.8-10/2008

I had the opportunity while on Vancouver Island to see some masters at work at The Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition in Parksville,BC.These sand sculptors come from all over North America.It was closed to the public and fenced off when we arrived,thus the shots through the fence.They opened in the afternoon for viewing and chatting with the busy sculptors.They are given 10 yards of sand(20 if you are a team) and 23 hours over 3 days to finish their work.It was so interesting watching their works progress.I will show you here some of that progression from the afternoon I spent there.I unfortunately don't know who claimed the $28,500 in prize money.The hauled in sand,by the way,is donated to the town to be spread on the beach after the show is done,thereby keeping ahead of erosion.
