This first winter bird was found in a brushy area amid the houses on Gurnet Point. Although it is out of focus, the pink bill, white breast, tan head, black breast markings make it a Harris's. The white throat and thin malar stripes make it a juvenile.
The bird popped into view and stayed still just long enough to get my lens on it (from within my car). It flew right over the car and by the time I got out of the car to try for a better shot and to just enjoy the bird (a first for me in Mass, and only the second one I have ever seen). I tried for 45 minutes and never could relocate it. It made a distinctive chip note as it went over the car and twice from far back in the brush - and then went silent.
