Thank you for posting all these wonderful wild flowers! We have some real beauties down in SouthWest Oklahoma, especially in the Wichita Mountain Wild Life Refuge. The Blue Bonnets have just faded away and the Coriopsis is coming on strong!

I seem to have a few flowers on my property near Clarita that I did not find in your gallery. They grow on a rock outcropping that is unusual. Still looking to find out what they are.

Are there different ironweeds? Or are there various shades of it? I have a photo of a flower that looks like the Baldwin ironweed (or very similar). However, the color is not so much reddish-purple as it is a beautiful vibrant violet purple color.

I have so many plants growing in my flower gardens that look like sunflowers but have rounded leaves. I know that I'm allergic to them because they used to grow up in my vegetable garden and I had rashes every time I picked vegetables. Finally I realized that it was those plants that were causing it. Now there are lots of them in my front flower garden. Help!

I have a purple flower shaped sort of like a morningglory, only smaller the stem has brackets, leaves one on each side, the next leaves are turned a quarter turn and look the same. the flower grows off the bracket. the leaves are narrow and pointed. the plant reminds me of a ragweed, only the leaves are smooth not with 3 points.

I have a picture of a wildflower I'm not finding in your gallery. The picture I have was taken at Martin Park in OKC but they grow everywhere. It grows about a foot tall and has purple blooms like a locoweed, but the blooms slope downward instead of upward. Can I email you the picture? Maybe you can help me.

o i think i just found out what my plant is! (and the one you have here as camphor weed to) Cowpen Daisy, Verbesina encelioides. i cant of course be sure your plant is the same thing without a picture of the leaves, but the flower matches. :)

first of all, you have a wonderful gallery here! and i hate to tell you this, but the flower you identified as Camphor Weed, isnt correct. google camphor weed and you will see that the flowers look similar, but camphor weed has thin single point petals, and your flower has wide triple point petals. i think yours is the same plant i am trying to ID, but so far iv have had no luck.

I'm also curious about the flower that Amanda described (26-May-2013 16:35). The closest I could find on it is the Blue Eyed Mary. Is that correct? They look almost like little iris', and they are in bloom during the day and close at night.

The weekend of June 8, we traveled to Edmond, OK to visit family. traveling along I-40, we saw lovely wildflowers. Of course, for safety reasons we couldn't just pull over and climb through the bushes for flower ID. There was one flower that intrigued me. it was low growing with what appeared (at 70 mph) to have a rounded shape. The color was Orangy-peachy. From this poor description can yu ID it for me? Thank you.

In my back yard, I have this beautiful purple flower but I can't find the name. It has 2 long leaves that hang down, with black spots at the top of the leaf. The flower itself has 3 petals with yellow in the middle and there are a lot of the buds all together. Any ideas?

I have found the prettiest little wildflower that I have never seen before. It's white, yellow and pink and looks like a starfish. I can't find it on anything I have looked in. Anyone have any idea what it would be called?

There is a really pretty purple flower in southeastern oklahoma where i live a7 i cant seem to recognize it on this website its got small petals & little leaves that look prickly any suggestions on what it could be??????????? Please and Thank yhou!

There is a blue/purple wildflower in bloom now in Northeastern Oklahoma that looks like a wild phlox. I am trying to identify the species. It's about 6"-8" high and has 5 petals per flower. There are clusters of flowers at the top of the stem. Long, narrow, pointed leaves located just below the flower cluster and near the base of the stem are positioned opposite each other. Any guesses?

I grew up being told that Henbit was vetch! I never knew the difference 'til just the other day, when I stumbled onto this site at my mom's house. I do have a question that I hope you can help me with...there's a flower I didn't see on your list that I grew up picking when I was a kid living in Pink (west of Tecumseh) because it smelled so pretty. It was a tiny yellow flower, kinda slipper-shaped, and VERY fragrant...almost a fruity smell. I can't even remember if it grew tall or low to the ground or on a vine or what, but I've always wondered what it was called, and why I've never seen it outside of the woods I grew up playing in.

Thank you for this guide. I have recently become enamored with Oklahoma's lush greenery -- this is helping to satisfy my curiosity about all of the beautiful flowers I've seen this spring and summer. Just a fun fact: I recently picked a purple poppy mallow, and it has stayed bright and full for three days in a vase. I am a bit disappointed, however, to see that my favorite wildflower, the Mexican evening primrose, missing from your photos. It is basically ubiquitous in central and southeastern Oklahoma and so it is odd for me not to see it here.

The plant at the bottom of the 4th column [currently labeled DSC07204.jpg] is known as Indigofera miniata, or Western Indigo.

I was born and raised in Oklahoma, northern part of the state, settled in Norman before graduating from the University there and moving to New York. Hello... I am so excited to find this site. I really appreciate all the work you put into it! I do have a question. I am trying to identify a thistle we picked on our nature walk. It is either a Bull Thisle or a Tall Thisle. I really can not see the diference just looking at the picture. Also, I was under the understanding that "Milk Thisle" was it's common name... is this incorrect? Could some one be a little more descriptive please so we can correctly identify it for our nature journal? Thank you so much

I have taken some beautiful pictures of the Passion Flowers in my yard, but did not know what they were called. I am so glad that I found this sight. Did you know that after the Passion Flower has wilted and died, that a round green gourd-like ball is formed? That's what is there now, I'll let you know what comes up next

We moved into the Tuttle area on a small spring fed pond and I love identifying the wildflowers and your site is so helpful. My new SLR is getting lots of use but finding a calm day to take the photos has been hard with all the spring winds.

Richard, Thanks so much for the outstanding work you have done creating this website. It’s helping me identify some of the many wildflowers I’ve shot in Oklahoma. Today while visiting Canadian county I came across what I believe to be cornflowers. Unfortunately it was too windy to capture images and my time was short as my wife was waiting for me in the car. I plan to return to capture some images in the next couple of days. Also I have some images of yellow goatsbeards that I capture in Lincoln county a couple of years ago. Thank you for your contribution to Oklahoma. We love your wildflower website. It has been very beneficial in helping us identify some of the flowers that we've been finding around our new home. We have one that I didn't see on your page though that I've been trying to find the name for. It's much like the prairie sabatia only without the yellow center. I've been told the name of it is spring beauty by some of the locals. Would you happen to have any more photos that are not posted or on a different site?

Thank you so much for your hard work documenting these wonderful plants. I just got back from a trip up there and driving through the Refuge we saw flowers and plants we haven't seen before. I have been going there for over 40 years, and I have never seen it so beautiful. I imagine it's all the rain this year, but the abundance and rich diverse colors blew my mind. And wouldn't you know I forgot my camera too! I could kicj my self!

Richard-I love your pictures. Do you publish your work? I have a ranch in SW Oklahoma near ElDorado on the Red River. This year the rain provided us with an abundance of flowering plants that we've never seen before. I captured most of the images over a 30 day period from mid May to mid June and would like to learn more about each species. I burned the better images to a cd and can mail you a copy. These really are lovely but they don't include one that I am trying to find the name of. It came up in one of my flower beds and I had never seen it before and no one seems to know what it is. It has groupings of three leaves except on the stalk that the flower (which is lovely and delicate) grows on. These have single leaves clustered close all the way down, and the plant when wet or brushed against has a very pungent odor. It smells like over ripe Bell Pepper mixed with a little garlic. I have a couple of pictures that I took of it but don't know how to send them to you. Maybe you would be able to tell me what it is. Sincerely, Phyllis Ekberg.

Hi! I'm also a lensman from the Philippines. Iloved flowers and liked very much all your close-up shots of them in your gallery. Fantastic and very nice! Im still using a film-based camera in my pictorial with my old realiable Nikon FM 2.For macro photography, I just have a 60mm lens. I wish I have lenses sophisticated as yours.
