Auschwitz-Birkenau would never be a pleasant experience, even for us tourists.
The largest of the Nazi German extermination camps along with a number of concentration camps,
Auschwitz is the German name for the nearby town of Osweicim about 60km west of Krakow.
The camps turned out to be a major element in the preparation of the Holocaust,
and it is estimated that at least 1.1 million people were killed there, of whom over 90% were Jews.
After the war, the Polish government decided to restore Auschwitz I and turn it into a museum honouring the victims of nazism;
Auschwitz II, where buildings were prone to decay, was preserved but not restored.
The Auschwitz concentration camp is part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
THE WAR IS HISTORY, BUT THE CAMPS STAND TO REMIND HUMAN DO NOT LET HISTORY REPEATS.............

Just come back from there -I expected it to be sombre but something uncomfortable seeps into you, like the raw cold of a wet winter day. THere were the poignant bits, of course - the brushes, the hair and, of course, the gas chamber. Then came Birkenau, the latrines, the barracks, and the selection ramp. Afterwards, I found I needed to talk about it, talk it out of my system, like the aftermath of some trauma. It came to me a few days later: I had been in the presence of unfathomable evil.
The Jewish myth is right about Auschwitz and Birkenau. There are no birds there,let alone singing. I understand now why they stay away from the place.
