This is NOT a photo of a dead bird. This is a photo of a bird that is REALLY enjoying its dust bath. While photographing birds near Shoreline Lake I noticed this Bewick's Wren taking a dust bath just off the trail. I had observed this behavior before with Bewick's Wrens but never had a chance to photograph it. The wren seemed to enjoy the dust bath immensely and spent several minutes in two different areas of the open space during the entire sequence.

Whenever the wren was on it's back or side, it's eyelids were partially or completely closed.
Notice the small shadow on the wren from a piece of debris that's still in the air from its active bathing.
My wife loves the Bewick's Wrens in our yard and when I showed her this photo, she whacked me on my arm before I could assure her the bird was not dead but in a blissful state. :-)
You can notice a slight blur in the head and neck of the bird as it's dusting itself.
Once again, notice a slight blur in the head and neck of the bird as it's almost completely on its back while dusting itself.
