The photographer has used a long exposure to create a different type of landscape. The shadows are heavily blocked up and trying
to lighten them may have brought out too much noise. The unusual lighting on its own is not quite strong enough to compensate for
a composition that is not highly creative. Try shooting upwards through the tree to emphasise the night sky, or something similar.
