I once read an article by an ornithologist about how the Mallard and American Black Duck gene pool is so intermixed that most Mallards and American Black Ducks are actually hybrids of some generation. Early generation hybrids like this guy here show visible signs of hybridization while later generations show none. Obvious hybrids like the guy shown in my photo here aren't common from what I've seen.
