Jack-in-the-Pulpit (female) (Arisaema triphyllum)

Jack-in-the-Pulpit has an interesting life history. The plant emerges from an underground tuber of sorts, a corm, and depending on the amount of nutrients stored in the corm the plant can emerge either as a male or female. If there are plenty of nutrients stored in the corm the plant emerges as a female with two leaves while lower levels of nutrients produce a male plant with one leaf. The corm can produce a male one year and a female the next.

Really nice shot. The green leaps out of that muted background.
